This food trail will take visitors to some of the most notable “makan” places in Kg Gelam such as Victory Restaurant, Islamic Restaurant and Warung Pariaman and to discover the stories behind their famous cuisines.

Come take part in this special food trail around Kampong Gelam and sample the various halal cuisines on offer as you learn more about this unique historical district. Since the days of Raffles, the port town that is Kampong Gelam has seen newcomers from throughout the Malay world and beyond make their new homes in the area. Along with their trade and culture, these newcomers also brought with them their cuisine.
 
The Kampong Gelam of today is a smorgasbord of flavours, colours and scents from areas such as Padang, Java, India, Turkey and the Middle East. Don’t miss this chance to get to know Kampong Gelam through its food, people and history!

Malay Heritage Centre

The Malay Heritage Centre (MHC) provides wonderful cultural exposure and learning opportunities for people of all ages and interests. Situated within the Kampong Gelam precinct, the Centre acts as a vital heritage institution for the Malay community in Singapore. Through its exhibits, programmes and activities, the Centre hopes to honour the past while providing a means for present-day expression.

Although MHC is temporarily closed, the Centre continues to organise programmes and activities for everyone to enjoy and learn about Malay heritage & culture.
