In this special archaeology-themed tour, dig deep with curator Michael Ng as he shares insights and stories about the history of Empress Place, told through objects found during excavations in 1998 and 2015. This first half of this tour will take place outdoors around the Empress Place dig sites, followed by an indoors segment at ACM.

 

About Michael Ng

Michael Ng is an Assistant Curator (Maritime Archaeology) at the Asian Civilisations Museum. He has been involved in terrestrial and underwater archaeological projects in Singapore, Indonesia, Cambodia, Myanmar, Thailand, Vietnam, Australia, and Jordan since 2009. He worked at the Archaeology Unit at ISEAS – Yusof Ishak Institute as a Senior Research Officer from 2014 to 2023. While at the Archaeology Unit, he worked on multiple archaeological fieldwork projects in various capacities. Apart from participating in fieldwork and post-excavation work, Michael organised archaeology outreach programmes for educational institutions in Singapore. His research interests include Southeast Asian archaeology and history, particularly maritime and coastal archaeology, military history and archaeology, public archaeology, trade ceramics, and mollusc ecofacts.
