What were the motivations and challenges for the creation of the iconic former National Stadium? Which sporting bodies were responsible for the administration of sport from post-War till to independence? This book offers a valuable insight into the pivotal moments charting the path to the establishment of a statutory board and stirring events leading up to the construction of the Grand Old Dame at Kallang. Published by Sport Singapore to mark its Golden Anniversary (1973-2023), it presents a chronological representation of the development of sport in Singapore, and the competitive exploits of Singapore athletes in international sport from the late 1940s.

A talk by the author Dr Nick Aplin, and panel chat with sporting luminaries and heritage experts at the book launch provides an opportunity for the sporting community, history buffs and Singaporeans to discover the intertwined challenges of staying the course along a rocky road to a national icon and the building of a new nation.
