血指环 Ring of Fury (1973)
24 May 2023, 8pm
Director: Tony Yeow & James Sebastian
Language: Mandarin with Chinese and English subtitles
78 mins, PG (Some violence)
A humble noodle-seller refuses to pay protection fees to a gang of thugs, resulting in tragedy befalling his family and loved one. To exact revenge, he takes matters into his own hands and learns martial arts to deal with the gang led by a mysterious man in an iron mask.
Inspired by the kungfu craze sparked by Bruce Lee in the 1970s, Ring of Fury is Singapore’s first and only martial arts film featuring local Kyokushin karate master, Peter Chong. Banned from release in Singapore for over 30 years, the film was restored by the AFA using the surviving 35mm release print in 2017.
This film screening is organised in conjunction with the Archives Invites talk on "Practice as Research: Learning Chinese Martial Arts for the Creation of Dance Pieces" and "The Preservation and Restoration Journey of Ring of Fury". Register this free talk on 18 May, 7pm via:
