by Preservation of Sites and Monuments (PSM)
23, 30 May • 10:00am • Outram

Learn about the three national monuments that lie within the Singapore General Hospital (SGH) compound. The meeting point will be beside Blk 7, SGH, opposite College of Medicine Building.

Spirit of Saving Lives

Due to tightened safe management measures, this programme has been cancelled. We will be in touch with participants who had signed up, to arrange for full refunds.

Three national monuments that stand within the Singapore General Hospital (SGH) compound bear testament to this country’s medical history – the College of Medicine Building, Tan Teck Guan Building and Bowyer Block. Be inspired by the generosity of members of the Chinese community such as Tan Jiak Kim, as well as passionate doctors such as Lim Boon Keng, who dedicated their lives to laying the foundation of Singapore’s medical education and healthcare system. At the same time, learn more about SGH’s role during the Japanese Occupation.

Preservation of Sites and Monuments (PSM)

The Preservation of Sites and Monuments (PSM) division, under the National Heritage Board (NHB) and with advice from the PSM Advisory Board, guides the preservation of buildings, monuments, and sites, which commemorates Singapore’s heritage as defined under the Preservation of Monuments Act. The PSM division also leads NHB’s joint efforts with National Parks Board to list the Singapore Botanic Gardens as Singapore’s first UNESCO world heritage site. It also oversees the 100 heritage sites that have been marked by NHB.
