Javanese Association of Singapore
By Definition Pte Ltd was co-founded by Suryakenchana Omar in 2011 to offer Community Arts, Culture and Heritage Education to the private, public and people sectors. It is through By Definition Pte Ltd that Suryakenchana pilot most of the workshops relating to Javanese culture and heritage. By Definition was also a vendor for National Heritage Board to offer workshops on jamu and wayang kulit. The Javanese Association of Singapore was founded in 2015 amidst the need for an entity to represent the Javanese community for the jointly organised exhibition – Pusaka: Heritage and Culture of the Javanese in Singapore in 2016. The society became dormant from 2017, and a new committee is working towards it’s revival. We plan to relaunch JAS with a mission to forge the Singapore Javanese identity in this coming Singapore Heritage Festival.
