Time: 10am - 11.30am
Venue: Yan Kit Pool Heritage Gallery (5 Yan Kit Road Singapore 088261)

Orchid cultivation holds a special place in Singapore’s intangible cultural heritage, with deep roots in our history, identity, and economy. While often seen as delicate or hard to grow, many orchid varieties thrive easily in our tropical climate. In this hands-on workshop, participants will learn practical tips for successful orchid care, discover beginner-friendly species, and pot their own orchid to take home.

The workshop takes place at Yan Kit Playfield, a site of national significance as the birthplace of Singapore’s National Flower—Vanda Miss Joaquim (Papilionanthe Miss Joaquim). Participants will also visit two commemorative display plots honouring Agnes Joaquim’s creation of the iconic hybrid in 1893, while exploring what makes this orchid a resilient and meaningful symbol of our nation.
