"Sufrah by AN@S" features a showcase and discussion of Singapore Hadrami or Singapore Peranakan Arab heritage cuisine, which was held at the Asian Civilisation Museum on 28 February 2021.
The discussion was led by our home-grown Singapore culinary doyen Ms Aziza Ali and culinary expert Ms Liza Kassim. The engaging event was attended by senior figures from various public and private bodies, as well as from community groups. It was graced by our Guest of Honour, Mr Mohamed Alhabshee, First Gentleman of the Republic of Singapore and Patron of the Arab Network @ Singapore.
Guests were treated to a Sufrah Showcase featuring a display of Peranakan Arab cuisine, lovingly made by members of the Singapore Arab community. The cornucopia of delectable fare included dishes like Bamiya, Foul, Mahalabiya, Bubur Asyura, Bubur Gandum, Shakshouka, and many others.
These dishes have been concocted from cherished traditional home-made recipes, preserved and passed down from one generation to another. They have been infused with memories of family gatherings, with infectious joy and laughter, as part of the characteristic gotong-royong spirit of community kinship.
