Not Your Grandfather’s Road: A Virtual Tour of Singapore’s Streets Named After Trees

by Nature Society Singapore
27 May • 07:30pm

In this virtual tour, Dr Shawn Lum introduces participants to the interesting origins of some of Singapore’s street names and their link to trees!

Street names have many different origins. Some are named after people, others follow a certain numerical order, yet others might refer to the geography and history of colonial powers. Some neighbourhood streets follow a particular theme, including - and this may be a surprise to some – names of trees.

In this virtual tour led by NSS President, Dr Shawn Lum, we'll get acquainted with a number of trees, together with the streets that bear their names. We might even branch out to learn a little bit about the natural history, ethnobotany, and conservation of some of these trees.
