Herbs for Health

by NTU School of Biological Sciences

Did you know that the Nanyang Technological University has a Herb Garden which grows over 200 species of plants? Join us as we dip our toes into the wealth of knowledge about our local herbs and plants from the men on the ground themselves!

Herbs for Health

The Nanyang Technological University (NTU) Herb Garden was founded in 2009 by a small group of volunteers comprising staff, students and members of the public. Home to more than 200 species of tropical plants and herbs with medicinal properties, the garden is currently not open to public due to pandemic curbs. Herbs from garden have benefitted people from all walks of life, from researchers and chefs to people seeking herbal remedies.

This SHF, join us as we explore the grounds of the NTU Herb Garden and learn from the wealth of ethnobotannical knowledge of the gardeners who manage the place. Hear their experiences on what it takes to keep the place running and how the herbs grown here bring together knowledge from our various communities and knowledge systems - escaping easy, exclusive classification as traditional Chinese, Indian or Malay medicine.

As the herb garden continues to bloom, NTU's hope is for the harvest to provide a wider variety of herbs and plants that go towards supporting research. By giving to the Community Herb Garden Fund, you can support the Garden in its core functions of public education, scientific research, as well as the maintenance and administration of the grounds itself.
